CCA-80D – Designing with “Dual Cabinet Arrays”
This article covers design principles for placing the CCA-80D speakers.
CCA-80 Defined Coverage Patterns provide uniform coverage from nearly directly below the loudspeaker out to distances that greatly exceed conventional horns. The asymmetrical horn in CCA-80 permits co-locating cabinets together as an array facing opposite directions to permit uniform coverage over a long distance following the aiming axis of the horns.
Coverage and positioning
The 6:1 Technique (see link to article on the 6:1 Rule below) can be used to locate units that face the same direction and offer optimal overlapping patterns to extend the coverage of a single CCA. After placing units, the delay can be calculated for needed signal alignment.
CCA-80D arrays includes a vertical mounting u-bracket for each loudspeaker. Also included is a joining bracket to simplify the installation and ensure the speakers are positioned at the optimum inter-cabinet distance. Details about the bracket installation and safety considerations are available in the Installation Manual.
In the following example the coverage plot for two CCA-80 positioned “back-to-back” shows the total effect of a properly positioned array. Each cabinet can be additionally tilted downward vertically as needed to either improve the coverage directly below the array or to limit the total projection distance.
Positioning GLL Files
Positioning CCA-80 GLL files in EASE Focus, EASE EVAC, EASE 4, or EASE 5 must be done as to ensure the positions exactly match the geometry of the CCA-80D mounting hardware kit.
The GLL insertion point and the mounting bracket connection point on the loudspeaker coincide on the side view of the loudspeaker. See below in feet and meters.
The correct interval between units in a CCA-80D array is notated in the GLL Information Notes:
· Metric: 0.5m
· Imperial: 1.64ft
These dimensions can be used in any acoustic modeling or drafting program. For EASE Focus 3 users like the example below, the correct dimensions are contained in the GLL Information Pane. Select this by clicking on the Biamp GLL Title Bar or the Help Menu > About CCA-80.
