MPX 250 Design Validator

Overview

The MPX 250 Design Validator is an interactive tool designed to plan installations based on the EasyConnect MPX 250.

Its primary purpose is to verify upfront whether the laptops connected to each USB-C port of the Room Pucks will be able to operate in BYOM (Bring Your Own Meeting) mode or will be limited to Screen Share-Only.

The distinction depends on the total number of USB hubs traversed by the chain between the laptop and the system: the USB specification enforces a maximum of 5 cascaded hubs. Beyond this threshold, the laptop can no longer drive conferencing audio/video peripherals directly, and is limited to screen sharing only. The tool automatically calculates this count for every port, taking into account all components present in the installation.

Design Validator

How to use it

The control panel on the left allows you to configure the installation topology through five parameters:

  • Room Pucks: A slider from 1 to 4 defining how many MPX 250 units are present. Each unit manages 4 USB-C ports. When more than one puck is added, the tool automatically introduces an MPX 250 DC unit to link them together.
     
  • User Laptop: The type of laptop used by end users, classified by the number of internal USB hubs (0, 1, or 2). This depends on the organization's standard laptop model.
     
  • Peripherals: Presence and type of AV peripheral connected to the puck (Vidi 250/280 + Tesira, Parlé VBC 2500/2800, CBC 2500, or generic peripherals with 0/1/2 hubs). Each peripheral adds a certain number of hubs to the chain.
     
  • USB Extender: Presence of a USB extender in the signal path (MPX 250 EXT or a generic extender), along with its hub contribution.
     
  • UC Compute: Presence of a UC Compute device (e.g. a Microsoft Teams Room or Zoom Room) and how peripherals are routed, either through the MPX 250 or through the UC Compute itself.
     

How to read the diagram

The topology displayed on the right shows the physical structure of the installation. For each port on every puck, a laptop card is shown with:

  • the port number (P1–P4)
  • the total USB hub count in the chain for that port
  • a color code: solid navy indicates BYOM (≤ 5 hubs), white with dashed border indicates Screen Share-Only (> 5 hubs)

Hovering over a laptop card shows a tooltip with a hop-by-hop breakdown of the hub count (DC, MPX, extender, laptop, peripherals, UC Compute).
