Football Field
This system design template describes three different loudspeaker designs to cover a typical high school football field. Scenario 1 uses speakers mounted on the roof of the press box. Scenario 2 uses speakers mounted higher up on light poles behind the bleachers. Scenario 3 uses speakers mounted on a scoreboard on one side of the field.
Design Scenario 1 : Pressbox
In this design scenario the loudspeakers are mounted on the roof of a press box, preferably at least 16 feet above the highest row of seating. The bleachers are assumed to be 20 feet tall at the back row. An array of two to four loudspeakers to address the home seating, plus an R2-52Z or R2-52MAX in the center to provide cross-field coverage.
Equipment list
Below is the list of loudspeaker and amplifier equipment used in this design:
Option A : High SPL and best musicality. Addresses larger bleacher areas while projecting uniformly over farther distances.
- 1 - Community R2-52MAX Dual 12-inch High Output, High Performance Three-Way; 71Hz – 22 kHz, (H x V): -52 (50° x 20°), -64 (60° x 40°), -66 (60° x 60°), -94 (90° x 40°) - Visitor coverage
- 3 - Community R.5-96MAX 12-inch High Output High Performance Coaxial Two-Way; 70 Hz - 20 kHz, (H x V): -66 (60° x 60°), -96 (90° x 60°) - Home coverage
- 2 - Community ALC-1604D Amplified Loudspeaker Controller: 4 Channels x 1600W + DSP and Dante
Option B : Moderate SPL for use in venues with shorter bleachers (i.e., the length of the bleachers does not exceed the 30-30 yard line).
- 1 - Community R2-52Z Full-Range Defined Coverage Three-Way; 70 Hz – 16 kHz, -52 (50° x 20°), -77 (70° x 70°), -94 (90° x 40°), -474 (40-70° x 40°), -694 (60-90° x 40°) - Visitor coverage
- 2 - Community R.5-94Z Compact Full-Range Horn Loaded Two-Way; 85 Hz – 16 kHz, (H x V): -66 (60° x 60°), -94 (90°x40°),-99 (90°x90°) - Home coverage
- 1 - Community ALC-404D Amplified Loudspeaker Controller: 4 Channels x 400W + DSP and Dante
Option C : Very articulate three-way performance and enhanced LF to the home seating section, while providing more even coverage to wide sections of the home stands.
- 1 - Community R2-52Z Full-Range Defined Coverage Three-Way; 70 Hz – 16 kHz, -52 (50° x 20°), -77 (70° x 70°), -94 (90° x 40°), -474 (40-70° x 40°), -694 (60-90° x 40°) - Visitor coverage
- 2 - Community R2-94Z Full-Range Defined Coverage Three-Way; 70 Hz – 16 kHz, -52 (50° x 20°), -77 (70° x 70°), -94 (90° x 40°), -474 (40-70° x 40°), -694 (60-90° x 40°) - Home coverage
- 2 - Community R.5-94Z Compact Full-Range Horn Loaded Two-Way; 85 Hz – 16 kHz, (H x V): -66 (60° x 60°), -94 (90°x40°),-99 (90°x90°) - Center of Home
- 2 - Community ALC-1604D Amplified Loudspeaker Controller: 4 Channels x 1600W + DSP and Dante
Design Scenario 2 : Lighting poles
In this design scenario the loudspeakers are pole mounted at least 25 feet above the back row. The bleachers are assumed to be 20 feet tall. Because the loudspeakers are mounted at a higher point, this system provides more even home seating coverage than the Football Field 'Press Box' design. A single R2-52Z or R2-52MAX provides cross field coverage.
- Additional matching compact loudspeakers on the press box (Extra Coverage- red triangles) will help reduce artificial echoes. This can be added to either Option A or B. This extra coverage option will require an additional ALC amplifier to support.
Equipment list
Below is the list of loudspeaker and amplifier equipment used in this design:
Option A : Higher SPL and enhanced musicality for venues where the light poles are up to 240 feet apart.
- 1 - Community R2-52MAX Dual 12-inch High Output, High Performance Three-Way; 71 Hz – 22 kHz, (H x V): -52 (50° x 20°), -64 (60° x 40°), -66 (60° x 60°), -94 (90° x 40°) - Visitor coverage
- 2 - Community R.5-96MAX 12-inch High Output High Performance Coaxial Two-Way; 70 Hz - 20 kHz, (H x V): -66 (60° x 60°), -96 (90° x 60°) - Home coverage
- 2 - Community ALC-1604D Amplified Loudspeaker Controller: 4 Channels x 1600W + DSP and Dante
Option B : Moderate SPL for use in venues with shorter bleachers and light poles up to 180 feet apart.
- 1 - Community R2-52Z Full-Range Defined Coverage Three-Way; 70 Hz – 16 kHz, -52 (50° x 20°), -77 (70° x 70°), -94 (90° x 40°), -474 (40-70° x 40°), -694 (60-90° x 40°) - Visitor coverage
- 2- Community R.5-94Z Compact Full-Range Horn Loaded Two-Way; 85 Hz – 16 kHz, (H x V): -66 (60° x 60°), -94 (90° x 40°),-99 (90° x 90°) - Home coverage
- 1 - Community ALC-404D Amplified Loudspeaker Controller: 4 Channels x 400W + DSP and Dante
Extra Coverage :
Three or Four (3-4) R.35-3896 (additional home stands coverage)
Additional signal-delayed coverage of the home stands helps reduce artificial echoes.
- 1 - Community ALC-404D Amplified Loudspeaker Controller: 4 Channels x 400W + DSP and Dante
Design Scenario 3 : Scoreboard
R2-52Z or R2-52MAX loudspeakers are mounted to the scoreboard 25 feet above the ground. The bleachers are assumed to be 20 feet tall at the back row. Atmospheric effects such as wind, diffraction, and excess high frequency attenuation are more likely to be noticed in this design. If the length of the home or visitor bleachers exceeds the 20-20 yard line, additional R2-52Z loudspeakers should strongly be considered for one or both sides.
- Option 3 enhances SPL at long distances or covers longer bleachers. This option will require an additional ALC amplifier to support.

Amplified Loudspeaker Controllers
Biamp's line of Community Amplified Loudspeaker Controllers (ALC) offers factory-optimized DSP processing, protective limiting and amplification, as well as signal routing, zone switching, and remote monitoring for virtually any Community loudspeaker application.
Standard Ethernet communication protocols allow for fast system design, system control, and remote system monitoring. Analog and Dante® inputs included in each model are assignable per channel in static or failover/backup configuration, supporting quick and easy integration into any new or existing system.
Community-authored loudspeaker presets include equalization, high pass filters, and multi-stage limiters tailored to each model, ensuring consistent sound quality and full loudspeaker protection in every application. Additionally, each Community loudspeaker preset includes loudspeaker power and impedance information, allowing the system configuration software to display the total power and impedance of multiple parallel wired loudspeakers, further reducing the time and effort required to match complete loudspeaker systems with the appropriate ALC models and output channel configurations.
In-depth control and monitoring is accomplished via ArmoníaPlus® system manager software.
