This article describes interfacing Tesira AVB streams with the Meyer Sound Galileo Galaxy product line.
Tesira stream formats
Tesira AVB I/O streams allow user-defined channel counts between 1 and 60 channels per stream, up to 16x16 streams and a total of 419x419 channels per device. Further details on Tesira 1722.1 support is found here.
Tesira Server, Server-IO, and TesiraFORTÉ processors can host the AVB stream DSP blocks.
To link to the Meyer Galaxy, Tesira users will need to create one or more 8-channel AVB output blocks using the Network I/O > AVB Output option. Each AVB I/O block represents an AVB stream. Stream names can be customized in the Properties of the AVB output block. The stream should be set to be fixed in unit = true for the desired transmitting Tesira processor in the Properties of the AVB output block.
Meyer Sound Galaxy
The Meyer Sound Galaxy has sample rate converters on the input side and can optionally accept 48kHz or 96kHz AVB input streams. Tesira does not operate at 96kHz sample rates, so it can only transmit 48kHz audio streams to Meyer Galaxy processors. The Galaxy is restricted to transmitting 96kHz streams on its output, so it is not possible for Tesira to receive AVB streams from the Galaxy.
Galaxy input streams must contain 8 channels. The Galaxy accepts up to (8) 8-channel input streams (64 channels total). To use AVB inputs, the Galaxy system clock must be set to AVB.
If the Galaxy is to be slaved to the Tesira via AVB this must be done using an AVDECC controller as shown in this article: Using Riedel AVB Manager to synchonize Tesira to a 3rd party device. The AVB stream used for clock sync can be the first 8-channel stream used for input audio to the Galaxy.
Meyer Sound Compass 4.3.6 and Compass Go AM824, and their included GALAXY firmware, are the last versions that support AVB AM824 audio format (non-blocking, async packetization). Compass 4.6 and beyond support MILAN AVB only, with AAF audio streams and CRF clock streams. GALAXY processors with different firmware will NOT be compatible with each other.
