Resolving an "Internal Software Error"

Wrench_Bld.pngIf a Tesira device fails a firmware update or is no longer able to boot the resulting error can read in the soware as an "Internal Software Error"  There are a few common steps to undertake to restore your system's functionality.

There are two different version of this error.  As long as you can discover the device in the Tesira software an affected box will be reporting one of the following:

Device Internal Software Error (m)”. (Main Operating Environment)

Device Internal Software Error (r)”. (Recovery Operating Environment.)

Of note is that because the device will report a Device ID of 0, an affected device is not part of a system and will show up in the Device list NOT system list.

if you cannot see the device in the software A factory reset may be needed.

The Cause:

The Source of the Error is that a firmware upload did not complete successfully.  this could be due to a number of reasons such as:

  • A network event that Interrupted the firmware upload.
  • Attempting to upload current firmware on a device that is running very old firmware without first updating to 3.11.
  • A power event or the PC that is running Tesira software suffering  a failure.

Regardless of the underlying cause the resolution paths remain the same.

Fixes:

  1. Power cycle the Device and try the update again, if the issue was related to the network event then the event may have been temporary.
  2. Bypass the network or isolate the affected unit.
  3. Ensure a strong stable connection.  Biamp does not recommend updating firmware over Wi-fi
  4. Temporarily disable firewalls or security that may be impeding the firmware upload.
  5. Ensure that the version of firmware being uploaded is the correct one.
