Dynasound wiring guide

This article describes how to wire your Dynasound Sound Masking System, as well as what each device connects to. The article will cover the connection types and devices for networked, 70V, and eavesdropping systems

Networked System

The networked Dynasound system connects loudspeaker controllers, DSPs, and control interfaces using standard network cables. This often allows installation using existing infrastructure, along with excellent scalability and flexibility. Loudspeaker connections from the loudspeaker controller to each loudspeaker consists of an individual 2 conductor loudspeaker cable.

DS8000

CAT5e cabling provides Power over Ethernet (PoE) and networked digital audio signals from the masking and paging processors to the DS8000. It also allows network access to the DS8000 through the Privacy Manager software to allow easy management of multiple DS800s. Each DS8000 has eight loudspeaker outputs designed to power Dynasound’s DS1356 or other network-capable loudspeakers.

Each DS8000 is capable of receiving 8 network audio channels from a DS3002/3008. In addition, each DS8000 contains four independent sound masking generators each having full 1/3 octave EQ. Each loudspeaker output has independent control and routing from the eight audio network channels and the four internal sound masking generators allowing for flexible matrix routing to each output. Dynasound’s networked loudspeaker controllers must be connected only to compatible DSPoE24 network switches for proper operation. DS8000 loudspeaker controllers are controlled using "Privacy Manager Software".

CAT5e cabling provides routing of networked digital audio to the DS8000 loudspeaker controllers as well as control communication through either the touchscreen interface or the Privacy Manager software for larger system management. The DS3008 provides 4 internal sound masking generators, 8 balanced line inputs and outputs, input EQ and compression, as well as a DSP matrix mixer. The DS3002 has the same internal DSP but with 2 balanced line-level inputs and 2 outputs instead of 8.

Loudspeakers

The DS1356 in-direct loudspeaker is designed to be installed above suspended ceilings or in open-structure facilities. The loudspeakers can be connected to the outputs of the DS8000 using standard 18 AWG two-conductor wire. Loudspeakers are suspended using a single point suspension.

These loudspeakers are 8-ohm loudspeakers and should not be used on 70 volt systems.

DS1398

The DS1398 in-direct loudspeaker is designed for in-floor or above ceiling plenums as shallow as 1¾”. The dual-driver device offers a low profile, yet produces broad sound masking distribution. The loudspeakers can be connected to the outputs of the DS8000 using standard 18 AWG tow-conductor wire.

These loudspeakers are 4-ohm loudspeakers and should not be used on 70 volt systems.

DS1320 (QT Active Emitter)

The DS1320 (Qt Active Emitter, Fusion Edition) is a single-source direct firing Emitter providing both sound masking and simultaneous clear reproduction of paging and music signals in mounting heights less than 20'. The Qt Active Emitter can be connected to a DS8000 network sound masking processor via standard 18 AWG two-conductor wire.

These loudspeakers should not be used on 70 volt systems.

Touchscreen Interface

The high-resolution 10" touch screen controller provides a network connection for control communication to your networked Dynasound Sound Masking system. It ships with Privacy Manager software and communicates with any loudspeaker controllers and masking and paging processors on the network. Used when user adjustment, scheduling of masking levels, or contact closure shutoff are required. The touch screen receives power via Power over Ethernet (PoE).

Generators/Mixers/Amplifiers

The DS1042 is a digital masking generator with adjustable volume and a low pass filter for tuning. A 25-watt amplifier provides power for up to 25 70v loudspeakers or approximately 6000 square feet.

The DS1092 features a digital masking generator with an adjustable low pass filter for tuning. The DS1092 incorporates a mixer to introduce paging and music signals into the system. A 40-watt amplifier provides power for up to 40 loudspeakers or approximately 10,000 square feet.

The DS3002 and DS3008 processors can be used as the paging and music interface for the 70V. The DS3008 provides 4 internal sound masking generators, 8 balanced line inputs, and outputs, input EQ and compression, as well as a DSP matrix mixer. The DS3002 has the same internal DSP but with 2 balanced line-level inputs and 2 outputs instead of 8. DS3002/DS3008 processors are configured using Privacy Manager Software. The DS3002/3008 outputs are intended to be connected to a DSLG22 amplifier.

The DynasoundPro DSLG22 sound masking amplifier is well suited for traditional 70 volt systems as well as smaller installations. It has 2 x 100W output channels for either 70V or 8-ohm speakers. For use with either DS3002 or DS3008 generators.

The amplified outputs can then be connected to any of the 70v loudspeakers.

The DS1338 loudspeaker is designed to be installed above suspended ceilings or in open-structure facilities. The Dynaound DS1390 is a 70 Volt selectable/dual, horizontally opposed loudspeaker speaker that produces uniform sound dispersion and is ideally suited for reverberant under floor cavities and ceiling plenums as low as 1 3/4". The loudspeakers are connected to the outputs of any of the above 70V generator/mixer/amplifier using standard 18 AWG two-conductor wire.

DS1375

The DS1375 contains a five-inch diameter speaker. Dynasound’s DS1375 sound masking speaker is designed for quick and easy installation into suspended acoustical tile or drywall ceilings. The DS1375 provides uniform dispersion and is well suited for paging and music signals and sound masking signals. The loudspeakers are connected to the outputs of any of the above 70v generator/mixer/amplifiers using standard 18 AWG two-conductor wire.

Eavesdropping Systems

The Dynasound Eavesdropping systems are intended to protect secure rooms from unwanted eavesdropping by sending full-spectrum sound masking signal to vulnerable locations like walls, windows, and pipes.

DS2408

The DS2408.jpgDynasound DS2408 pipe, duct, and wall sound masker is used to protect pipes, ducts, and walls against human and electronic eavesdropping by filling them with full bandwidth sound masking. The unit may be attached to the exterior of any pipe or duct, whether square or round. It may also be attached to the vertical surface of any partition wall. The DS2408 is critical to the securing of pipes and ducts when DIAM and DCID requirements for SCIF need to be met. The DS2408 may be used to ensure eavesdropping protection of pipes and ducts that breach the perimeter of a secure environment by resonating these penetrations, filling them with sound masking and/or misinformation. Additionally, it resonates the plane of any wall along the perimeter of a secure

DS2508

Dynasound DS2508 sound maskers are used to protect windows and doors against human and electronic eavesdropping by applying full bandwidth sound masking . The unit may be attached to the interior side of any window or door. In all applications the integrity of the surface remains intact. The DS2508 series is critical to the securing of windows, doors and walls when DIAM and DCID requirements for SCIF need to be met. It is effective against laser eavesdropping techniques, as well as the use of parabolic microphones. The DS2508 is meant to be connected to one of the outputs of the DS8000.

DS2600/DS2600XL Portable Eavesdropping Protection (PEP)

The Dynasound DS2600 Portable Eavesdropping Protection (PEP) Pack is a complete, compact, portable eavesdropping protection system designed for offsite or occasional applications. It offers the ability to quickly secure an environment against human and electronic eavesdropping, as well as advanced signal recovery techniques. The non-deterministic sound masking signal can be layered with additional sources, such as music, nonsense syllables, and misinformation.

The DS2600 system consists of a DS1092 sound masking generator/mixer/amplifier, eight (8) sound masking devices, standard RCA-type phono plug connector cables to daisy chain the entire system, and a flight-approved, atmosphere compensating Pelican Protector Case™. The DS2600 PEP Pack is effective when DIAM and DCID requirements for SCIF need to be met in offsite or occasional applications. The devices can be adhered directly onto a variety of surfaces utilizing a readily available peel-n-stick adhesive. They are easily removed, leaving no adhesive residue or evidence of their presence. They feature two standard phono jacks, of which either jack can be used as the input or throughput.

The DS2600XL system consists of the same base set of components, including eight (8) sound masking devices. The DS2600XL includes a large Pelican Protector Case™ that provides room for an additional 22 sound masking devices, for a maximum of 30 devices per case.
