Upgrading Tesira firmware to version 2.x

A one-time update is required when upgrading a Tesira system running firmware version 1.x.x to firmware version 2.x.x (or greater). This firmware update is included and applied as part of the Tesira v2.1.0 firmware update.

This one-time update is a major upgrade that takes somewhat longer than typical firmware upgrades, and is more involved. Therefore, it is highly recommended that the following steps are followed when completing this particular upgrade. This procedure is not required for subsequent firmware updates.

Once a Tesira device has been upgraded to firmware version 2.x, it should not be downgraded back to a 1.x version.

Backup configuration files

  1. In Tesira software, click the Connect button connect.png or go to System→Network→Connect To System.
  2. Select the desired system in the System List, and click the Connect To System button. This will download the current configuration file from the system, and connect you to it live.
  3. In order to save the file to your computer, you must disconnect from the system. Press the Disconnect button disconnect.png or go to System→Network→Disconnect From System.
  4. Go to File→Save As to save a copy of the file to your computer.
  5. If there is a Biamp Canvas file loaded to the system, repeat steps 1-4 in Biamp Canvas software.

Update Tesira and Biamp Canvas software

Ensure that your Tesira software and Biamp Canvas software have been updated to the latest version. You can always find the latest version at  https://support.biamp.com/Tesira/Software-Firmware . You can check what version you currently have installed by going to Help→About Tesira or Help→About Biamp Canvas.

Reset all Tesira servers

Before applying the firmware update, perform a "Reset" on all Tesira SERVER and SERVER-IO devices that require updating. This will clear the Tesira configuration file and Biamp Canvas file from the devices.

  1. In Tesira software, click the Device Maintenance button devicemaintenance.png or go to System→Network→Perform Device Maintenance.
  2. Select a device in the Device List, and click the Reset Device button. This will reset the device, along with any other devices that are part of the same system. Repeat this step until all devices have been reset.

Apply the firmware update

You are now ready to apply the firmware update via the Device Maintenance dialog. To obtain the firmware update file go to  https://support.biamp.com/Tesira/Software-Firmware . Make sure you download the file that is marked as the "one time upgrade" firmware file.

  1. In Tesira software, click the Device Maintenance button devicemaintenance.png or go to System→Network→Perform Device Maintenance.
  2. Click the Update Firmware button.
  3. Browse to the firmware update file, which will be a .tfa file. You may need to unzip the downloaded file to obtain the .tfa file.
  4. Select all of the devices that you'd like to update, or click Select All to update all devices. Click OK to begin the upgrade.

Allow up to 20 minutes for the firmware update to complete. You may notice the server(s) rebooting multiple times throughout the update. Do not remove power or interrupt network connectivity during the update. Updating firmware over a WiFi connection or via a remote internet connection is not supported.

Re-send Tesira and Biamp Canvas files

Once the firmware update is complete, re-send the Tesira configuration file and Biamp Canvas file.

  1. In Tesira software, open your backup Tesira file.
  2. Click the Send Configuration button send.png or go to System→Network→Send Configuration.
  3. When prompted, enter a System Description.
  4. When prompted to start audio, click Yes, then click the Start All button.
  5. If this system has a Biamp Canvas file associated with it, repeat steps 1 and 2 in Biamp Canvas software.

At this point, any Tesira expander devices will automatically begin to receive the firmware upgrade from their server(s). This process can take up to 15 minutes, and the expanders will not pass audio or otherwise function during this time.
